what a lot of my grumpiness at the moment is coming from: I know a whole bunch of people who are super into “questioning their privilege” and reading privilege checklists and pulling people up on manifestations of privilege or oppressive behaviour, even the most minor, because every little counts of course

and it never even occurs to them to question this rock-solid certainty that their paradigm, their analysis is the best.  that someone might actually have a different analysis rather than simply being unenlightened or lazy or callous.  that it’s their place to enlighten others or shut certain conversations down, to control rather than listen or reflect.  I’m not talking about being egotistical on a personal level, it’s more of an epistemic thing, I know lots of shy and self-doubting people who don’t actually, seriously, question their view of the world and their duty to impose it on others.  

it’s just super fucking ironic because that unthinking arrogance is, like, the fucking textbook definition of privilege
